Here are our Bespoke grading choices
Select Grade
Typical Features of the Select Grade
Few, if any, knots, which are of minimal size.
Minimal sapwood and filler, if any, with filler colour complementing the wood's natural structure.
Slight batch-to-batch filler colour variation.
Minimal colour variation in the timber, unless a reactive finish, like smoking or fuming, has been applied to enhance variation.
Prime Grade
Typical Features of The Prime Grade:
A mix of nearly prime boards and others with small knots.
Variation in tone from heartwood to sapwood.
Small checks (cracks across the growth ring).
Some filled elements, like broken knots.
Filler colour complements wood's natural structure.
Batch-to-batch filler colour variation.
Natural Grade
Typical Features of the Natural Character Grade:
Includes heartwood and sapwood.
Allows a wider color range.
Larger knots, potential checks, and end shake.
Filler complements natural wood structure.
Batch-to-batch filler colour variation.
Rustic
Typical Features of the Rustic Grade Features:
Virtually limitless size and number of knots.
Includes heartwood, colour variation, sapwood, and filler.
Expects checks (cracks across the growth ring) and possibly end shakes (cracks between the rings).
Filler complements natural wood structure.
Batch-to-batch filler colour variation.
